Janel Sipala, owner and lead instructor at Janel’s Dance Arts Fusion, began dancing at the age of four at Anita Ehlers’ Dance Extensions in Park Ridge, NJ, studying all forms of dance; ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop and tap. She was soon invited to join the studio’s junior, then senior dance company, and was given the opportunity to teach class as well.
In high school, she enjoyed performing in musical productions of Footloose, Pippin, and Les Miserables. During her four years at Immaculate Heart Academy, she also created a performing arts service group made up of fellow high school students, volunteering their time and talent to perform for the elderly in senior housing facilities in Bergen County, NJ.
Janel went on to attend Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, where she studied Elementary Education and Dance. She performed and choreographed for student and faculty dance concerts and was a member of Muhlenberg’s jazz and hip-hop dance team, the Perkulators. While achieving academic success with her induction to the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society, she was also President of the Muhlenberg Dance Association and an instructor for the Muhlenberg Community Dance Center. In 2009, Janel graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance and Certification in Elementary Education.
Since college, Janel has had wonderful opportunities to combine her two passions for education and for dance. She choreographed the grammar school productions of Alice in Wonderland, the Wizard of Oz, and High School Musical. She held the position of assistant choreographer for the productions of Cabaret and Curtains at St. Joseph’s Regional High School in Montvale, NJ. She also taught dance at Sukha Arts Center, Kozlov Dance Studio and Kolotov Dance Studio.
Janel has always embraced performance opportunities. She accepted the offer to join the hip- hop and Bollywood dance fusion company, Bollywood Funk NYC. She is a former member of the Gotham City Cheerleaders, “GCC”, cheering on behalf of the NY Giants for the 2012-2013 season. She has since remained with the “GCC” as Assistant Choreographer. She has also performed at the opening ceremony for the 2014 Special Olympics.
Along with current development projects in dance/performing arts, Janel is also the Basic Skills Coordinator and Math Instructor for the Ethical Community Charter School, which is located in Jersey City, NJ. Janel’s teaching experience and devotion to the performing arts has brought her to this point, to the creation of a studio, where her students will learn to express themselves through dance.
